There are different recommendations of protein depending on your lifestyle. For example, athletes & fitness professionals can benefit from a higher amount. Protein is needed to repair muscles, and without it can cause to inhibit muscle growth and even cause injury from inflammation.

Let’s assume that you chose, for lack of better term, a healthy protein. You’d want to use it to augment your diet where needed. It shouldn’t be a complete replacement. Your body needs nutrition from all sides of the spectrum. After all, supplements are meant to be added into your diet not replaced.

Now let’s get to numbers on how often experts recommend you have protein. Most average individuals would benefit greatly from a supplement with 15-20 grams of protein a day. Although, this doesn’t mean that’s all you need.

The DRI (Dietary Reference Intake) states that you need 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight, or 0.36 grams per pound. This would amount to 56 grams for an average sedentary man and 46 grams for an average sedentary woman. These numbers will keep one out of a deficiency but not necessarily to have optimal health.

All in all, it’s important to have good protein. Not only that, but it’s vital to eat the required amount your body needs every day. With that said, It can be tricky to get all your protein intake in one day. A good way to stay above your body's needs is to supplement with a high-quality protein that will give add value to your diet and lifestyle.
